He also teaches Responsible Machine Learning as a lecturer at the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University. His work has been covered in the press, including articles in Propublica, Wired, and the MIT Tech Review. Avijit’s research and outreach have led to real-world impact, such as helping shape regulation in New York City and influencing Facebook to remove their biased ad targeting algorithm.

Q & A

Q: How did you find your way to AdeptID?

A: Last year, I presented a paper at FAccT in Seoul and ended up meeting and chatting with Brian, Co-Founder and Chief Data Scientist at AdeptID. Later, when Brian met with my advisor— who had included me in the call— he recognized me and mentioned AdeptID was hiring. We chatted and that’s how I got the job!

Q: What are you looking forward to in your future at AdeptID?

A: I am really looking forward to make real impact here, and continue to do important work and research. I really care about AI Ethics and I want to make real impact in whatever I do, not just lip service.

Q: What are some of your hobbies outside of work?

A: Outside of professional pursuits, I enjoy cooking, visual arts, and pop music— especially Taylor Swift.
