Dan Smith’s Adeptiversary

by Katie Kamio 02/23/2024

Congratulations to Dan Smith, our amazing Head of Engineering, on celebrating his 1-year Adeptiversary. We’re so grateful to have Dan as part of our team, and we’d love for you to get to know him better. Check out this interview to learn more about his journey with us:

  1. How did you find your way to AdeptID?

In some ways, my journey to AdeptID began about 12 years before the company was founded. About that time I realized that as a software engineer, I have lots of work choices and I wanted to work for companies focused on helping people.

This started with companies making creative tools for digital artists, systems aiding research in personalized medicine, and tracking climate change and improving agricultural outcomes. AdeptID is an extension of that journey as we work on helping individuals find better occupations that can increase their work  opportunities and have a positive generational impact on their families.

  1. What is one of your  favorite memories from your time at AdeptID?

That’s easy.  My favorite memories have come from socializing with company members.  We’re a small, hybrid tech company so I’ve especially enjoyed visiting with remote team members when they visit our Boston office.  It’s fun to socialize in person with people that you work with everyday.

  1. What project at AdeptID are you most excited about? What has your impact been on this project?

I have to say it’s whatever the engineering team is currently working on.  That’s a coy but true answer.  As a growing start-up, each project brings unique challenges that shape our understanding of customer needs and how we work as a team.  Growth and change are very exciting.

  1. What is one of your favorite hobbies to do outside work?

I enjoy reading non-fiction, learning about Japanese culture, and playing board games with my family. I’m easily attracted to new interests. There’s a constantly growing stack of books on my bedside table.
